Written Plan for Improvement
Guidelines for Implementation
If or when your chapter does not achieve a 2.8 chapter gpa, you will be required to submit a written plan for improvement, complete with identification of the primary issues affecting your members academic success, as well as your strategy for making the necessary improvement by the next semester.
Your
plan should include:
1. Statement of the Issue, including how or why you believe this to be the
case.
2. Strategies your chapter will adopt in order to facilitate the academic success of ALL members. This should include specific goals for individuals as well as the chapter.
3. Below is a list of possible strategies (i.e., changes in practice) that would be worthwhile for your chapter to consider as part of the Plan for Improvement. Remember, you DO have the right, the authority, and probably the legislative power to see many of these things to fruition. As part of your chapter's final Plan for Improvement, choose 5 of the following strategies and incorporate them into your plan.
4. Members below a 2.8 (or your designation) enroll in the course offered by the WSU Libraries which teaches effective use of the library resources. For more info contact: Scott Walter at the Education Library.
5. Utilize Alcohol Free Housing (if you don't already)
6. Utilize resources at the SALC for aid in specific, individual academic goal setting.
7. Limit the participation in social activities of members/new members below a 2.8 gpa.
8. Create an incentives or rewards program for those who improve, exceed their goals, etc. Talk to your alumni about what incentives they may be able to offer if/when these goals are met.
9. Have outside resources conduct programs on: time management, study skills, note taking, etc. (Recommended at least 3 per semester)
10. Limit video game playing by members/new members during certain hours (week days)
11. Eliminate cable TV from individual rooms of all members/new members, or at least those with below a 2.8 gpa.
12. Limit intramural participation of members/new members below at 2.8.
13. Utilize the resources and advice of a Scholarship Advisor (alumni volunteer) or Faculty Advisor (WSU Faculty or Staff member). The SA or FA should have monthly meetings with the Executive Board and meet 2 each semester with the entire chapter).
14. Institute a higher grade cut-off for pledging eligibility and or initiation eligibility.
15. Institute quiet or study hours after a specified time on weeknights.
