A Brief Introduction to Greek Life at WSU

Greek Life at Washington State University has been a vital part of campus life since the early days of WSU. With the first chapters coming into existence around 1910, the Greek Community has a long and rich tradition of excellence. Greek Life still has a great deal to offer college men and women. When deciding if you would benefit from membership in the Greek Community, please consider the following:

Members of the Greek Community find a close-knit group of friends. Mentoring programs and support systems are hallmarks of the Greek Community.

Greek students are consistently involved and leading dozens of campus organizations. By joining a Greek chapter, one cannot help but get involved and gain valuable leadership experience outside of the Greek Community.

The Greek Community is bound to the university by the Fraternal Organization Agreement. This document details the requirements chapters must meet to retain their university recognition.

Chapters must by approved to house freshmen by submitting a detailed report.

Greek chapters are self-governing. This means there are many opportunities for students to be involved in the decision making and management of their chapters. Leadership positions exist in every chapter and will give you enhanced leadership experience which will greatly help you after college when looking for a job.

Emphasis on scholarship in the Greek Community is prevalent. Members are expected to maintain minimum grade point averages to remain in good standing with the chapter. Scholarship programs are in place to help students succeed in college.

Greek students participate in philanthropic and community service opportunities and as a system volunteer more than 20,000 hours and raise over $100,000 for charity each year for local causes and national organizations, such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Membership in a Greek chapter is for a lifetime. This is unique to Greek chapters. Becoming a member of a Greek chapter is an experience that extends well beyond the college years, and into professional and personal arenas.
