Our Core Values and how we are working to achieve them:
Values Integration – The CFSL is dedicated to working with students to use their knowledge for the betterment of themselves and society. Focusing on values integration helps teach individuals what they can offer society. When students use their values (what they believe is most important) to guide their behavior they become more effective, more productive, and create the life that they want to live.
To achieve values integration, the CFSL is engaged in the following ways:
- Creation of the annual Arête Award criteria and collaboration with the Greek Councils in hosting the Award Ceremony
- Mentor, advise and train the Greek Standards Board in accountability initiatives
- Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct regarding individual Greek Students and Chapters
- Facilitation of the annual University Approved Housing Process
- Development and Implementation of the Ethical Leadership Series, featuring the book Freakonomics
Citizenship & Diversity – The CFSL encourages and enhances civic engagement, cultural competency and a commitment to diversity.
To facilitate citizenship and diversity, the CFSL is engaged in the following ways:
- Advisement of the annual philanthropic focused, Greek Week
- Develop campus/community partnerships to facilitate civic engagement and service
- Advise Greek honoraries such as: Order of Omega, Gamma Sigma Alpha and Rho Lambda
- Coordinate, sponsor, and facilitate educational programming on cultural competency
Intellectual Development – The CFSL helps facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through experience and application. The CFSL is committed to emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning.
To facilitate intellectual development, the CFSL is engaged in the following ways:
- Create, conduct and/or co-sponsor educational programming (hazing, sexual assault, substance abuse, cultural competency, etc)
- Provide training for and mentor Live In Advisors
Positive Relationships - The CFSL helps foster a positive environment where collaboration, involvement, and participation are paramount, an environment of belonging and acceptance where communication and teamwork are emphasized.
To maintain and create positive relationships, the CFSL is engaged in the following ways:
- Promotion and marketing of Greek Community (via Alive, campus visitation and other promotional events, formal recruitment, publications, etc.)
- Creation of and wide distribution of Greek News
- Communicate regularly with Fraternity and Sorority Leadership Consultants and Headquarters staff
- Attend House Director Meetings
- Facilitate collaboration and communication with alumni via meetings, dialogues and regular electronic communication
Leadership Development – The CFSL strives to strengthen involvement in addressing complex issues, act upon opportunities that fulfill responsibilities of leadership, followership, and teamwork, and to encourage students to contribute to the broader community, state, nation and world. The CFSL is dedicated to helping students lead with compassion, creativity, flexibility and steadfastness to meet the challenges of the new century.
To contribute broadly to the leadership development of Greek students, the CFSL is engaged in the following ways:
- Facilitation of: The Greek Leadership Academy, Greek Council Training/Retreats (semi-annually), risk manager/social chair workshop, recruitment workshops, chapter presidents workshops (semi-annually), and chaperoning (and presenting) students to regional Greek Leadership conferences, and the Greek Leadership Convocation (fall)
- Teach Ed. Ad 497 section 1(Greek Leadership course)
- Teach Ed. Ad 497 section 11(The Greek Experience Class, teach peer facilitators to lead the Greek 101 class)
- One-to-one mentoring and support for all Greek Councils and officers
Our Vision:
The Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life will be a premier student affairs department that fosters an inclusive environment committed to academic excellence, community engagement, developmentally appropriate opportunities that challenge and support students to become responsible, resourceful, and reflective citizens while utilizing university and local community partnerships.
Our vision for the fraternity and sorority community is for growth to occur in all areas, including personal, scholastic, and chapter development; to better our university for all students regardless of affiliations; and to achieve a higher level of unity, loyalty and respect.
The CUB has undergone extensive rennovation. Our office will be moving back to the CUB later this summer.
