WHY CONSIDER GREEK LIFE FOR YOUR STUDENT?

As your student makes the transition from high school to college, the Greek Community at Washington State University can provide a valuable network of support. When your son or daughter joins a Greek chapter they will gain scholastic support from chapter members, community service and volunteer experience, networking relationships with alumni, and close friendships with chapter members. Following are a few highlights of what Greek Life can offer your student. As you visit other locations on our site you will find more comprehensive information on the topics below. We welcome your input for information you would like to see added to our site.

GREEK LIFE AS A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS THAT LAST A LIFETIME

A hallmark of the Greek Community, your student will undoubtedly develop relationships with their chapter members and other Greek students that will last a lifetime. These relationships provide your student with a sense of belonging and a support network that is incredibly powerful.

GRADUATION AND RETENTION

One result of the deep and meaningful relationships your student will develop as a Greek chapter member, is a higher graduation rate among Greek students. WSU research shows Greek students are more likely to be retained each year than their non-Greek peers (as six year graduation rate will be compiled next fall). SUPPORT FOR ACADEMICS

Academic success is the top priority of WSU's Greek Community. When your student pledges a chapter, they will benefit from the scholastic programs, all- Greek scholastic competitions, tutoring as well as other programs to help them excel in academics. View the grades from each chapter.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PHILANTHROPY

Most Greek letter organizations have a historical duty and tradition of volunteerism while for others it is part of their stated core values and a requirement of membership. Regardless of whether the Greek organization was created for the sole purpose of volunteering or if it is just another positive byproduct of being Greek, volunteering and philanthropy are one of the most gratifying aspects of the Greek experience. Greeks recognize the need and concern for community involvement and throughout the year they raise money and donate time for their special philanthropies and community service projects. Greeks also participate collectively in service projects like Adopt-A-Block or Up Til Dawn.

ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT AND MENTORING

Greek alumni and alumni organizations can provide your student with a strong system of support after college. Many chapters provide connections within the community through jobs and internships. This networking opens doors to students for post-college opportunities all over the nation and the world.
