Scholarship: Kappa Alpha Theta highly values academic excellence, and we have been the scholastic leader in WSU's Greek Community every semester for years. Every other chapter on WSU's campus has a specific amount of required study hours each week for their members. Here at Kappa Alpha Theta, we believe each woman is responsible enough to study on her own time and therefore have no such program.
We do, though, have a variety of other ways to help when needed. One example of available help is through our Kite Sis' Mentor Program. This program is designed to help incoming freshman ease into the college setting by matching her with an older member studying the same major. The older member meets with the new member to discuss any questions or problems that may arise. Not only does it help academically, it also strengthens sisterhood and social bonds at the same time.
Social: The social bonds and relationships made in college last a lifetime, and joining a sorority is the perfect way to start. Kappa Alpha Theta offers countless opportunities for social activities. There are sisterhoods, like Raft Trip and Mug Party, as well as a number of events with fraternities. Across campus, social events in the fall semester mostly center around Cougar Football. Individual weekend exchanges as well as sisterhoods are usually scheduled before and after football games. The biggest social week of the year at WSU is in the Fall; it's Homecoming Week, which is packed with daily exchanges and inter-sorority contests.
Kappa Alpha Theta also has three "t-shirt" dances in the Fall: New Member Dance, Date Dash, and Kite-Key our annual biad dance with Kappa Kappa Gamma. Spring semester has a similar event to Homecoming called Greek Week for only fraternities and sororities. Crush Dance, Spring Formal, and Cruise on Lake Coeur d' Alene are also during Spring semester.
Philanthropy: Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropy is Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Employees of CASA work as court representatives for children who have been taken out of their homes due to unlivable family situations. Every October, WSU Thetas host a week-long event called Footbrawl. Fraternities donate money to participate in skits, serenades, and finally a football tournament in WSU's own Martin Stadium. The winners of the tournament go on to play the winners from University of Idaho's Theta chapter in a Battle of the Borders.
Our main money-maker for CASA is our Men of WSU Calendar. Men from a variety of WSU organizations apply to be in the calendar. They must submit their extracurricular activities, community service, and a picture, so the women of the chapter can handpick their favorites. Last year, our pilot year, we were able to donate more than $5000 to national and local chapters of CASA from the calendar alone.
